Oregonian

Scott was stopped for an interview as he rode his bike to work one day. The online article was 4 pages. I only included the part where Scott was "quoted".

Can suburbs change gears?
Designed for motorized traffic, cities are grappling with the needs of cyclists

Software engineer Scott Turner shows up in both counties' statistics by commuting daily 16 miles by bicycle from his home in Hillsboro to his job in Lake Oswego. Rising gas prices and bicycling's health benefits are his motivators.
"But you have to be really careful," said Turner, who has been hit by cars twice in the past two years. "It just takes one car not seeing me to cause an awful lot of problems."
Because of the accidents -- neither of which was his fault, he says -- Turner frequents lesser-traveled roads. The problem is that they tend to be narrower and do not have bike lanes, he said.
"It's a Catch-22 that every cyclist in the suburbs has to deal with," he said. "In my case, nothing is going to keep me off my bike. But for a lot of other people, there's plenty of reason to think about never getting on one."
